Latest Updates from Our Project:

After journeying along Geisha's Road, stop over at Taiwan Night Market!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Apr 06, 2023 at 05:32:00 AM

Dear backers,

Thank you for your past support of this campaign!  Now that this Kickstarter campaign has been fully fulfilled (please contact [email protected] if you haven't received your pledge yet), we wanted to personally let you know that we have just launched a new campaign for another board game out of Taiwan: Taiwan Night Market!

Taiwan Night Market is an auction game at its core, where you will bid for different locations in the night market every round and choose the type of stalls (food, drinks, dessert, or snacks) you want to build to attract hungry tourists.

At the end of the game, the player with the most money wins!

Taiwan Night Market is published by Good Game Studio, another Taiwanese publisher who we have worked closely with over the past two years to develop this game.

The Night Market illustration series, namely Boss Cat's Street Vendors 貓老闆的路邊攤, were all created by Nuomi 諾米, a famous artist in Taiwan. You can check out how he creates this stunning artwork in the videos below:

If you're interested in another highly interactive board game with an interesting theme, please check out our campaign page now!

Important Update: Component Checklist and Key Reminders!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Apr 05, 2023 at 08:59:55 AM

Dear Backers,

Greetings from Japan!

Hanamikoji and Geisha's Road under cherry blossoms

On a recent visit to Kyoto, we brought our games to visit their namesake street:

Geisha's Road and Hanamikoji at Hanamikoji

While we didn't get the chance this time around, once upon a time, prior to the pandemic, we were lucky enough to find the time and opportunity play there:

Playing Hanamikoji at a cafe on Hanamikoji

Hope you one day have a chance to visit as well!

Now, we have received a lot of questions about the components, assembly instructions, etc., and so we wanted to address it all with this key update that you can reference.

Component Checklist for Geisha's Road

Since the Kickstarter campaign, we have continued to test and refine our end product, including many of the stretch goals.  Because of that, we have had a few adjustments to our components.  Here is a checklist of items you should receive along with some callouts to the key changes:

Geisha's Road:

Geisha's Road Checklist

Beyond the list from the campaign, here are the additional and changed components:

Added:

  • 2x Counteroffer Tokens and 2x Hidden Offer Tokens (originally counteroffer was a stretch goal, hidden offer is an added bonus based on playtesting feedback)
  • 1 Prestige Point Setting Card (to help denote the what point tokens to take)
  • Objectives To Try and Appendix for 3 Expansion Modules (Counter Offer, Hidden Offer, Geisha's Destiny)

Replaced:

  • 12x Geisha's Growth Tokens --> 9x Double-sided Prestige Point Tokens (Note Geisha's Growth is now called Geisha's Destiny.  These double-sided tokens are the lantern cards upgrade.  Still wondering what changed and why?  See here for more details.)
  • Geisha Row Cards --> Geisha Row Tiles (component upgraded with thicker cardboard and smaller footprint for better overall gameplay experience)

Note: Each copy of Geisha's Road only includes 15 Guest Tokens (not 30).  The 15 Guest Tokens originally marked as an expansion is now included as part of the standard game.

Goodies #1 (for Hanamikoji):

Goodies #1 Checklist
  •  Same: 7 Geisha Cards with alternative art (wrapped in paper envelope package)
  •  Missing: Shadows in Kyoto Twins promo card (please contact EmperorS4 if you need it)

Goodies #2 (for Geisha's Road):

Goodies #2 Checklist

Same / Renamed:

  • 2 Special Item Cards (Toro, Geta)
  • 5 Geisha Power Cards (details here, originally called Geisha Ability in the campaign)
  • 3 Special Rainbow Guests
  • 2 rules sheets (Life of Maiko, Life of Geisha)
  • 1 character sheet
  • 1 scorepad

Added:

  • 9 Lantern Point Cards (same as Lantern cards in Pre-KS version, replaced in Geisha's Road by upgraded double-sided Prestige Point tokens; cards also used in Life of Maiko)
  •  1 3-point teapot token (for the green geisha Anju's special power)
  • 1 rules sheet for Geisha's Road Additional Expansions (provides rules on how other expansions are used)

Note: The paper teahouse was never included as we did not reach that stretch goal.

Also note: Some pledge may accidentally include a "Communicating" card from Herbalism

Goodies #3 (for Hanamikoji and Geisha's Road): No changes from campaign

Goodies #3 Checklist

Action Tiles Expansion: No changes from campaign

Action Tiles Expansion Checklist

Note: While the Action Tiles were originally designed for Hanamikoji, they may be played with Geisha's Road as well.  The back of each tile has a code tied to this nomenclature, and you can customize your own symmetric and asymmetric sets for Geisha's Road - see this link for details.  Note you can record your results here so we can share with the community.

Bundles (Collector's or above): No changes from campaign (Bookcase, Bookcase sleeve, Calendar)

Herbalism: No changes from campaign (Note the publisher did not include the additional 2-player variant rules, but they are available online here)

Shadows in Kyoto: No changes from campaign

Metal Pawns for Shadows in Kyoto: No changes from campaign (12 metal pawns, packaging)

For All Pledges: Thank you postcard from the designers

Tight Bookcases

Some backers have noted that their bookcase sleeves come a bit tight.  For those that are having trouble, please try the following:

  • First, stand the bookcase upright
  • Then pull up on the bookcase sleeve with both hands (a thumb and finger each)
  • Simultaneously, use the rest of your fingers to push the rest of the bookcase downward and letting gravity do its work.
  • If that doesn't work, try to find another person to help. Have that person hold just the sleeve while you try to pull the box downwards.

After you remove the sleeve the first time, it should be much easier to put back on and take off in the future.

Reminder: How to Play Video

For those of you looking for a video to teach you the rules, Peaky Boardgamer has put together a nice how-to-play video.  Please turn on Klingon subtitles to catch a couple key rules corrections.

Card Sizes

For those of you who would like to sleeve your cards, the sizes are:

  • Item cards: 63 mm x 88 mm
  • Teahouse cards (and summary reference card): 79 mm x 121 mm

Note the Geisha row now consists of tiles (no longer cards) and do not require sleeving.

Rule Clarifications

As questions come in, we have posted clarifications and minor typos / corrections to the rules for Geisha's Road on BGG.  For reference, here is the list so far:

On taking tokens: Both available? (Choose), Unavailable? (Don't), Compulsory? (Yes)

On round transitions: How tiebreaker tokens work, Carrying over scores to Round 2

Clarification on if you can move geisha with less than card value (Answer: No)

Clarification on Counteroffers to 3-Gift Action

Pre-KS (Beta) vs. KS version of Geisha's Road

We have received some questions from backers who have the beta version of Geisha's Road and bought Goodies #2 (but not the updated Geisha's Road) in order to receive the stretch goals.  However, there were a number of changes to the game that have occurred since the campaign, including decisions made to include certain components (e.g., Geisha Destiny, Counteroffer Tokens) into the standard retail version that weren't available in the pre-KS version.  For reference, here are the key differences in rules & components between the pre-KS and post-KS version.

We discussed with EmperorS4, and they are happy to remedy this issue by providing the missing components.  Please email them referencing your situation (i.e., purchased Pre-KS version of Geisha's Road and Goodies #2 but not the KS version of Geisha's Road) and they should be able to provide these additional components to you:

  • New Rulebook
  • Geisha's Road Rules Appendix
  • Double-sided Prestige Tokens from Geisha's Destiny
  • 1 Prestige Point Setting Card
  • Counteroffer and Hidden offer tokens
  • Geisha Row Tiles
  • Colored Standees
  • New Reference Card

Other Issues

If you have any other questions, please post to the comments or on BGG for visibility.  If you still have any issues with your pledge (any other components missing, damages, still have not received your pledge, etc.), please contact EmperorS4 ([email protected]) directly.

Best,

Smoox, Jerry, and Eros

FunAgain Games Promises to Fulfill Our Pledges
about 1 year ago – Tue, Mar 07, 2023 at 01:46:28 AM

Dear backers,

I know there has been concerns with the language FunAgain Games had previously posted on their Facebook post  and the impact that has on our pledges.

Despite that their Jan 16 posting states they are planning to stop fulfillment for pending projects currently in their warehouse, they proactively reached out and updated us in February to clearly disabuse us of any such notion when it comes to the Geisha's Road Kickstarter:

Email Communications with FunAgain on Feb 10th

This is confirmed repeatedly by their own replies in the comments section in their Facebook post, stating, "anything that is currently in our warehouse will be fulfilled:"

Funagain Replies to Comments in Facebook Post

Our games arrived in their warehouse in January and of course this would apply.

Finally,  we received double confirmation again yesterday:

Email Communications with FunAgain on 3/6

FunAgain Games is still fully committed to supporting the fulfillment of your pledges. Please be patient and hang tight!

Best,

Jerry, Smoox, & Eros

Local Fulfillment Underway Shortly!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Feb 23, 2023 at 08:05:16 AM

- Air: DELIVERED

- Ocean (NA, UK, EU) Delivery ETA: Mar 2023

Dear backers,

It's been a month since our last official update, and we have been working with our fulfillment partners to get your pledges to you.  Here is the latest progress:

North America

As mentioned before, FunAgain has our games in their warehouse and we are still on their schedule for delivery.  We are currently 3rd in line behind a couple other projects for delivery and working through the final details to align on shipping weights and fees.

Though FunAgain Logistics is ceasing operations on April 30th, they have been responsive to our communications, and though timelines have slipped due to being backed up and fairly busy for the past month, they intend to fulfill their obligations as our partner.  They anticipate fulfillment for our shipments should start by the end of Feb or beginning of March.

UK

As mentioned in our prior note in the comments section, the shipment had passed through customs and is in our fulfillment partner's warehouse.  We have completed payment and anticipate them to start fulfillment very shortly.  While it is possible some may go out before the end of the month, we anticipate most pledges will be fulfilled in March as well.

Europe

While we had hoped the fulfillment process would have started, there were some hiccups to get the games out of customs.  We have worked out new prepayment terms our fulfillment partners to resolve that issue, and they are now delivering the stock to their warehouse.  We also anticipate fulfillment in March.

I know this has been a long process, but we believe we are close to the finish line now and hopefully you will all have a chance to enjoy our games soon!
