FAQ: Hanamikoji: Geisha's Road
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

What are the differences between the new and old versions of Hanamikoji, Shadows in Kyoto, or Herbalism?

Short answer: The gameplay remains the same.

The rules between the new and old versions of these 3 games are exactly the same. The only changes in the new versions are their cover designs and some of the graphic designs on the cards and/or tokens.

So if you are happy with the current versions you already have, then you don’t need to worry about missing anything new/revised in the games.

I already own Hanamikoji. How do I get the 7 Geisha Promo cards?

The 7 Geisha Promo cards (along with other Hanamikoji extras / stretch goals) will become an add-on you can add in the Pledge Manager after the campaign ends.

We will also be creating a pledge specifically for this (price to be made available soon).

Alternatively, you may pledge for the latest version of Hanamikoji or the bundle and give away your old version to a friend, growing the gaming circle around you. That’s a win-win, isn’t it? :)

Does Geisha's Road need Hanamikoji to be played? What is the difference between the games?

No - Geisha’s Road is not an expansion to Hanamikoji. Geisha’s Road is a separate, standalone 2-player game that uses a similar I-cut-you-choose mechanism as Hanamikoji.

However, Geisha’s Road is slightly more advanced and has additional layers of strategy due to the variable and emergent valuation of different geisha, set collection, and timing tactics.

While Hanamikoji is fairly accessible to both gamers and non-gamers, Geisha’s Road will be better appreciated by those who want a bit more depth to their I-cut-you-choose experience.

Can I play Hanamikoji with the components from Geisha's Road?

Unfortunately you cannot - Geisha’s Road has 5 geisha instead of the 7 from Hanamikoji, and the card distribution and numbers are different. Geisha Road has 20 cards (1-4 for 5 colors), while Hanamikoji has 21 cards (2 purple, 2 red, 2 yellow, 3 blue, 3 orange, 4 green, 5 pink distribution).

How do I get just the Action Tiles Expansion?

The Action Tiles Expansion is available for $25 as an add-on. Make a supporter pledge for at least $1 and when the pledge manager opens after the campaign, feel free to change the amount and add the Action Tiles Expansion along with any other desired add-ons.

How much is shipping? Why isn't my country included in the shipping chart?

Shipping varies by country and is incremental to the pledge. Due to the challenges in global ocean logistics, we are planning to air freight orders, and different countries have different types of shipment methods (small parcel, express, etc.) available. We have tried to gather the rates across multiple options, but it is a time intensive task.

If you do not see your country listed and are interested in making a pledge, please contact us in the comments or by mail and we will provide the best estimate we can at this juncture. Note rates are not final but just an estimate - final shipping costs will be confirmed after the campaign in the pledge manager.

How do I make a retailer pledge or group pledge?

Please fill this form: https://forms.gle/1JVD4ejGAhj87UZt9 Note you’ll still need to pledge at least $1 at the Supporters level to get access to the Pledge Manager after the KS to finalize your order.

Will you be able to provide local language rules for my country?

The publisher is willing to provided a printed version of the rules for additional languages given two conditions: 1) We reach 100 backers in the country where a language is primarily used, and 2) We are able to get translation help for the rules.

Given those 2 conditions, we are more than happy to layout and print the local rules for a given market as part of the Kickstarter.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
